APNI is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Accounting Manager for its HQ office in Benguérir.

About the African Plant Nutrition Institute

Launched in 2019, the African Plant Nutrition Institute is a not-for-profit research and development institute based in Benguérir, Morocco. The institute works to develop and promote sustainable plant nutrition management practices and innovation through research, education, and outreach. It has active research projects in East, West, and North Africa. It currently has four offices across Africa.

Terms of Reference

Location: APNI HQ offices in Benguérir at the Experimental Farm of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) Campus

Reports to: APNI Director of Operations, with oversight by the APNI Management Committee

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the recording of accounting transactions in QuickBooks for HQ and regional offices
  • Monthly reporting of accounting transactions and records to an external accounting firm
  • Coordinate the Institute’s financial auditing with an external audit firm
  • Prepare and process staff expense reports
  • Organize APNI’s financial records – both physical and digital archives
  • Prepare Institute payables such as checks, bank transfers, and international wire transfers, etc.
  • Track APNI’s global budget and individual project budgets
  • Communicate the status of project budgets routinely to project managers
  • Formulate custom financial reports as requested by management
  • Track and prepare payments due to consultants, advisors, and partners
  • Prepare reports to declare the receipt of funds to the Moroccan Secretary General
  • Balance APNI cash funds
  • Process staff per diem/travel advance/other purchase requests
  • Assist in documenting processes and procedures for communication to staff
  • Prepare reports for annual Exchange Office (Office des Changes) filing
  • Verify and reconcile tax and other statutory payments (CNSS, CIMR, RAS, VAT, AT, Pension, etc.)
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality in Institute financial matters

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in finance or accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience working in accounting
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is an advantage
  • Able to record financial transactions on the accrual basis (double entry)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing accounting processes and financial reporting in mid-size organizations
  • Ability to complete assignments timely with thorough attention to accuracy
  • Willingness and flexibility to work individually and as part of a team
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential
