Dr. Robert Mikkelsen, a native of the US (California), Dr. Robert Mikkelsen is Director of Communications for the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) based in Benguérir, Morocco.
Rob earned his B.Sc. degree in Agronomy/Soils at Brigham Young University, then received his Ph.D. in Soil Science at University of California, Riverside. Dr. Mikkelsen has served as Professor of Soil Science at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh and Soil Chemist at the National Fertilizer Development Center at Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Dr. Mikkelsen became the Director of Western North America for the Potash & Phosphate Institute (PPI), which became the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI). Most recently, Rob served as the Vice President of Communications for IPNI.
Widely known for his research and expertise in nutrient management, Dr. Mikkelsen has authored or co-authored numerous research publications and book chapters. In addition to basic agronomic and fertilizer technology, his research has included nutrient interactions with the environment, animal waste management, and nutrient budgets. Dr. Mikkelsen is involved in many professional societies, including the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Society of Horticultural Science. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and a Fellow in the Soil Science Society of America, a recognition given to 0.3% of the society’s members. He is a Certified Crop Advisor and a Certified Professional Horticulturist.
