Enhancement of rice productivity through adaptation of climate smart agricultural options and market responsive business strategies in Uganda
Theme: Precision Nutrient Management
Description
The project aims at improving crop productivity through proper rice nutrition, sound agronomic and climate smart agricultural options with a market responsive business strategy. The project targets upland production systems which remains a critical ecology for rice production as Uganda’s government policy shifted from lowland farming in wetlands to upland based rice production.
The project aims are reaching out thousands of upland rice farmers with best agronomic practices and this is envisaged to increase national rice production output to meet the demand. The project will enhance upland rice productivity per unit area by 30%, boost grain quality for high milling recovery ratio of >80% and increase the efficiency of farming operations by 30%. Good agronomic practices, balanced fertilization practices, climate smart adaptation measures, better organized farmer-led institutions and effective private sector partnerships will be key interventions to be promoted in the region to transform livelihoods.
