Dr. Haroon is Senior Scientist and Regional Coordinator for East Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Haroon obtained his B.Sc. degree (agriculture) and M.Sc. (Agricultural Extension Education) from Makerere (MAK) University, Uganda. He also obtained a Ph.D. (co-majors in sustainable agriculture and sociology) from Iowa State University (ISU), USA. He began his career as a field agricultural extension officer in rural Uganda before joining Makerere University as an assistant lecturer in the department of agricultural extension/education at MAK, responsible for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in agricultural sciences, as well as co-facilitating community outreach activities in various agricultural value chains in Uganda. He later took up the role of lecturer and coordinator for graduate studies in the department of extension and innovations studies at MAK. During the same period, he assumed the role of associate director with the ISU/MAK joint development program in southeast Uganda, with responsibilities for monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and capacity building of actors in agronomy and extension.

Prior to Joining APNI, Haroon was a technology scaling specialist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) for over ten years. He was responsible for advancing and supporting the scaling of proven agricultural innovations primarily in eastern Africa via mobilization and engagement of partners, capacity building of actors, MEL, resource mobilization and knowledge management. He has published over 30 communication products and supervised over 10 graduate students.
