Newly Appointed Senior Scientist, Dr. Canon Norris Savala Engoke Joins the African Plant Nutrition Institute
APNI Kenya’s office has recently added Dr. Canon Norris Savala Engoke, a Senior Scientist with notable experience in Soil Science, Crop Physiology and Agronomy.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Engoke to our team,” said Dr. Kaushik Majumdar, APNI’s Director General. “His knowledge and experience will undoubtedly enrich our projects, and we look forward to the contributions he’ll bring to our growing team and projects.”
Prior to joining APNI, Dr. Engoke held notable positions in Soil Science, Crop Physiology, and Agronomy. His extensive experience and dedication have paved the way for his current role as Senior Scientist and Coordinator for the APNI-led Consortium for Precision Crop Nutrition.
Dr. Engoke received his M.Sc. at the Department of Soil Science at the University of Nairobi. He then joined the Forum for Organic Resource Management and Agricultural Technologies (FORMAT) in Kenya as a Research Project Coordinator and Farm Liaison Officer where he held several positions including Soil Science Team Leader in collaboration with Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), and Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with the United Nations of Nairobi Conference Services (UNON-CS).
Dr. Engoke embarked on his Ph.D. program in Soil Science at North Carolina State University, followed by impactful roles at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). Through these experiences, he not only refined his expertise but also fostered collaborations with smallholder farmers and various stakeholders, reinforcing his commitment to transforming African agriculture.
Dr. Engoke’s arrival at APNI signifies our continued commitment to fostering top talent to drive positive change in African agriculture.
